佛教谓修持大乘六度，求无上菩提（觉悟），利益众生，于未来成就佛果的修行者，均可称菩萨，与声闻、缘觉并称“三乘”。
In Buddhism, Buddhists who have achieved the Six Paramitas, enlighten themselves and all other sentient beings, and finally achieve Buddhahood are called Bodhisattvas. Sravaka, Pratyeka and the Bodhisattva path are known as the Three Vehicles (sancheng三乘 in Chinese).
