菩萨名，为西方三圣之一，是西方极乐世界无上尊佛阿弥陀佛的右胁侍者，又尊称大精进菩萨, 在佛教中是智慧的象征。
The term refers to the bodhisattva best known as one of the two attendants (along with the far more popular Avalokiteśvara) of the Buddha Amitābha in his buddha-field of Sukhavati. People also call him the Bodhisattva of Viriya. Mahāsthāmaprāpta is said to represent Amitābha’s wisdom, while Avalokiteśvara represents his compassion.
