An ancient Chinese musical instrument that is similar to sheng. It has three parts of Douzi, sound tubes and blowing tube. The difference between yu and sheng is that the tubes of yu are longer and thinner than those of sheng. Yu is similar to sheng in shape but with bigger size. The fresco of the west cell of Cave No.420 (Sui Dynasty) depicts an Apsaras playing it. Also, there is an image of Yu in the picture Madam from State of Song on Her Journey at the bottom north wall in Cave No.156 (Late Tang Dynasty). The musician playing a long and thin yu is in the front of the folk music band and is eye-catching.
