古时候宋国有个人,嫌禾苗长得太慢,就一棵棵地往上拔起一点,回家还夸口说:
- ‘今天我帮助苗长了!’他儿子听说后,到地里一看,苗都死了(见于《孟子·公孙丑》)。后来用来比喻违反事物的发展规律,急于求成,反而坏事。 {According to Mencius·Gongsun Chou, a man from the State of Song became impatient with the slow growth of grain seedlings in his fields and pulled them up a little one by one. When he went home he bragged, ‘Today I've helped the seedlings grow a bit higher!’ His son heard what he was saying, and went to the fields to take a look. It turned out that all the seedlings had died. (fig.) try to help seedlings grow by pulling them up — spoil things by excessive enthusiasm;}也说 also: 拔苗助长 {bá miáo zhù zhǎng}。
