[T]he present invention relates to a plasma display panel, which includes a front plate having scan electrodes and sustain electrodes covered by dielectric layer and a low voltage protective layer; a back plate having a plurality of column address electrodes; a dielectric layer; a plurality of barriers; and red, green and blue phosphor layers. During the addressing period, the sustain electrodes are driven with a common potential, while scan electrodes are driven such that a row of pixels is selected so that pixels in that row can be addressed via an addressing discharge triggered by an application of a data voltage on a vertical column electrode. Thus, during the addressing period, each row is sequentially addressed to place desired pixels in the ON state.
一个子场的驱动波形分为复位期、寻址期、维持期。复位期使前一个子场的维持期形成的壁电荷在各个象素处都处于均匀一致的状态，各个电极表面的介质上建立起来的壁电荷可以在随后的寻址期实现正确的寻址放电。在寻址期，需要点亮的单元被选中从而发生寻址放电，相应单元的X电极与Υ电极表面的介质上会积累相应极性的壁电荷。
