The Alamouti scheme is an important wireless transmitter diversity technique. It is part of the 3G standard (both IEEE 802.16 and IMT 2000), which represents the future of broadband wireless service. With two transmitter antennas, it is proven to provide much better system performance than systems with only one transmitter antenna. The 3G standard uses it to implement the downlink transmission from mobile stations to mobile terminals or the transmission specification for mobile base stations. Thus, mobile terminals, such as mobile phones, wireless PDAs, Wi-Fi computers, etc., must implement receiver designs using Alamouti schemes.
目前在多用户环境中所应用的一种比较经典的多天线分集技术是Alamouti方案，该方案包括：系统中的多个用户首先通过导频信号测量调度子带内的瞬时信道状态信息 (Channel Quality Information, CQI) 值，然后将该瞬时CQI值通过上行信道反馈给演进通用陆地无线接入网络节点 (E-UTRAN NodeB, eNB) ，最后eNB运用调度算法对用户进行调度。"
