- ‘夜篝火,狐鸣呼曰:
- “大楚兴,陈胜王。”’陈涉准备起义,夜里用笼罩住火,忽隐忽现像磷火,同时还学狐叫,假托狐鬼发动戍卒起事。后用来比喻策划起义。 {According to the Records of the Historian·Hereditary House of Chen She, ‘Seeing the caged fire, a fox cried:
“The Great Chu rises with Chen Sheng as its king.”’Chen She was ready to revolt. He used cages to cover the fire at night, which flickered like a jack-o-lantern. At the same time, he ordered his soldiers to imitate fox cry and start the revolt in the name of foxes and ghosts. The phrase has come to mean ‘plan for a revolt’.}
