- ‘斩木为兵,揭竿为旗。’后用‘揭竿而起’指人民起义。 {Essay on the Faults of Qin by Jia Yi of the Han Dynasty:
‘Chop down trees to arm the soldiers and hoist the banner on a bamboo pole.’ The phrase has later been used to refer to popular uprising.}
